Why is a medical check-up important before starting kindergarten?

Starting kindergarten is an important milestone in a child's life, introducing them to a new environment and daily interaction with other children. That is why it is important to undergo a medical check-up before preschool enrollment to assess your child's overall health, ensure there are no medical contraindications to attending kindergarten, and complete the required medical documentation.

During the consultation, the pediatrician evaluates your child's physical development, growth and weight, examines the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, and reviews any symptoms and medical history. If necessary, the doctor may recommend additional laboratory tests or consultations with related specialists, including a pediatric otolaryngologist (ENT specialist), allergist, neurologist, gastroenterologist, ophthalmologist, or orthopedic trauma surgeon.

Special attention is also given to your child's immunization schedule. If any routine vaccinations have been missed or the immunization record (Form 063/o) needs to be updated, the pediatrician will recommend an individual vaccination schedule based on your child's age and current medical guidelines.

A comprehensive medical check-up before starting kindergarten not only helps ensure that all required medical documents are completed but also allows potential health concerns to be identified early, provides parents with recommendations for a smoother transition into the kindergarten environment, and helps children begin this new stage with confidence.

FAQ

Can the kindergarten preparation program be completed in one day?

Yes. The pediatric consultation, required medical examinations, laboratory tests, and medical documentation can all be completed in one place during a single visit. If the medical documentation requires laboratory test results, our administrator will let you know when the completed certificates will be ready for collection.

What medical documents will my child receive after completing the kindergarten preparation program?

After completing the program, your child will receive the medical documentation required for kindergarten enrollment, including Form 086/o and Form 063/o. If the preschool requires additional medical documents, your doctor will advise you on which certificates are needed.

Are vaccinations required before starting kindergarten?

During the consultation, the pediatrician will review your child's immunization record and assess whether the vaccinations are up to date according to the Ukrainian National Immunization Schedule. If your child has missed any routine vaccinations, the doctor will develop an individual vaccination schedule and provide recommendations based on your child's age and health condition.

What if my child gets sick frequently?

Frequent colds are not always a contraindication to attending kindergarten. However, before your child starts attending preschool, it is recommended to have a pediatric consultation. If necessary, the doctor may recommend additional examinations or consultations with a pediatric otolaryngologist (ENT specialist), pediatric allergist, pediatric immunologist, or other specialists to assess your child's health and help prepare them for spending time in a group setting.
