How to prepare for an abdominal, kidney, and bladder ultrasound?
2–3 days before the examination:
- Limit foods that may cause excessive gas, such as legumes, cabbage, fresh pastries, carbonated drinks, grapes, and sweets.
- Whenever possible, choose light, easy-to-digest meals.
On the day of the examination:
- Arrive on an empty stomach. Your last meal should be 6–8 hours before the ultrasound.
- You may drink a small amount of still water.
- Do not chew gum or smoke before the examination, as this may affect gallbladder contraction and influence the results.
- Do not empty your bladder until the examination has been completed.
For children: Preparation requirements may vary depending on the child's age. If you have any questions, our medical center administrator will provide detailed instructions when you schedule your appointment.
If you have persistent abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea, digestive problems, or other gastrointestinal symptoms, your physician may recommend a consultation with an adult gastroenterologist or a pediatric gastroenterologist following your ultrasound examination.
