FAQ
Does local anesthesia completely eliminate pain?
Yes. When the appropriate anesthetic and dose are selected, pain sensation in the treatment area is effectively blocked. Before starting the procedure, the doctor checks whether the anesthesia is working adequately and adjusts it if necessary.
It is important to distinguish pain from other sensations. During the procedure, you may still feel touch, pressure, or movement in the treated area. This is normal and does not mean that the anesthesia is insufficient.
What does a patient feel during local anesthesia?
The injection of the anesthetic may cause brief burning or discomfort. Within a few minutes, the treated area becomes numb and pain sensation is significantly reduced or eliminated.
During the procedure, you may still feel pressure, touch, or movement of the tissues. If you experience pain, tell the doctor immediately so the effectiveness of the anesthesia can be assessed and additional anesthetic can be administered if needed.
How safe is local anesthesia?
Local anesthesia is a widely used and well-established method of pain relief. Before administering the anesthetic, the doctor asks about allergies, existing medical conditions, and medications you are taking. This information helps assess potential risks and select the most appropriate method of pain relief.
How does the doctor determine which type of anesthesia you need?
The choice of anesthesia depends on the nature and duration of the procedure, as well as the location and extent of the intervention. The doctor also considers your age, overall health, existing medical conditions, allergies, and medications.
If local anesthesia is sufficient for the planned procedure, it provides the necessary pain relief specifically in the treatment area without the need for more extensive anesthesia.
