Financial literacy for children

Children develop financial literacy from an early age through everyday experiences, parental role modelling, and their first interactions with money. It is important not only to explain where money comes from and what it can be spent on, but also to help children learn to plan, save, make informed decisions, and understand their consequences.
During this webinar with Samvel Aganov, psychologist and coach, we will explore how to develop a healthy relationship with money in children aged 3 to 18. We will discuss how to talk about finances in an age-appropriate way, foster independence and responsibility, and avoid creating fear, shame, or tension around money.
Key webinar topics
1. How does a child develop financial thinking?
How do children of different ages understand the value of money? How can parents explain the difference between needs and wants, spending, and saving? We will explore how parental role modelling shapes children’s financial habits and how early beliefs about money can influence their attitudes in adulthood.
2. Pocket money, spending, and financial goals
How can parents teach children to manage pocket money, plan purchases, and save for something they want? Should children be paid for household chores or good grades? When is it appropriate to encourage children to earn their own money, and how can parents help them understand the relationship between choices, spending, and consequences?
3. How to talk to children about money and financial commitments
How can parents explain loans, taxes, utility bills, and the family budget in simple terms? What mistakes do parents commonly make when teaching children about money, and how can they avoid conflicts over purchases, wants, and pocket money? We will explore approaches that encourage informed financial decisions without pressure or intimidation.
The webinar is designed for parents, psychologists, psychotherapists, educators, teachers, tutors, mentors, and other professionals working with children and families.
Participants will gain practical guidance they can apply in everyday life to help children gradually develop independence, responsibility, and financial decision-making skills.
